Ummatan Wasathan In The Light Of Qurān (Thematic Study)

Today we often listen or see many conflicts in our country, political conflict, and religion conflict or dominance struggle. The most sensitive thing that becomes trigger is religious factor. There were a lot of conflict was happen because its factor, and one thing that pitiful enough is fact that each of them who mixed up with conflict is same as Islamic people. Because of internal conflict in Islam and this situation continuous point less, arise image Islam as religion of violence, bar-bar and other negative view that absolutely contradictive with reality of Islam as religion of peace and blessing for all nature (Rahmatan lil Alamīn). In faces various kind of group and school and conflict that arise because of fanaticism to certain group, definitely we have to look back over Al-Qurān and Hadith as that modeled by first generation of Muslim while Prophet is still a live among them. Al-Qurān taught us to be the fairest society, or in al-Qurān terminology called by ummatan wasathan. The question to be answered in this research is What are the characteristics of Ummatan Wasathan . To answer that question, this study fully utilizes literature (library research) using thematic methods by collecting the verses in the Qurān which are talking about Ummatan Wasathan, and then arranges them as the order of chronology. From the research results can be seen that ummah wasath is moderate society that it position is in middle to be seen by all parties from all angle and became as witness and model and example to another and in same time they make Prophet Muhammad pbuh. as patron, model and witness and justification of their activity.
